How long does a blog post have to be?
So, how long does a blog post have to be? I'm Richard, Richard Dawson, a Digital Marketing Coach. This is my quick weekly digital marketing update.
So most people know that a blog or an article on your website is good for keyword positioning in Google and the other search engines. The reason for that is its fresh content and it ‘prompts’ Google to go and have another look at your website. So that's why we do it. Just, as importantly, though it's also content to engage your followers, both on social media and for people who visit your website. So it has an important function there too.
I'm often asked how long a blog post should be? The conventional advice that you'll hear from many people will be that it's got to be about 2500 words or so for Google to rank it well. In fact, if you look at what larger businesses with successful websites and the big brands do the average blog length comes out at around 800 to 1000 words or so.
So, my advice is to stick to that, kind of length, but focus it on your audience and make it interesting and engaging. Also, add in your target keywords in the text and heading and that will help with Google search as well.
