So five warning signs that your social media strategy might be making you look a little bit desperate!

I'm Richard, Richard Dawson, Digital Marketing Coach. This is my quick weekly, digital marketing update. So this week, I thought we'd look at those five warning signs that could be inadvertently be giving off a signal that you're desperate.

It's not a good look is it, it won’t generate more sales or prospects. Here are the five signs. Firstly. it's posting too frequently. So not really thinking about the quality of the posts that you're putting out, not making them informative and relevant and engaging just posting a high quantity. Secondly, it’s posting the wrong type of content for the wrong platform. A quick example of that would be somebody posting what I would call ‘living the dream’ type of post on LinkedIn, so about their new house, an exotic holiday or a new car maybe. The kind of thing you might post on your personal Facebook, or Instagram but not LinkedIn. That would be an example.

Thirdly there is ‘engagement fishing’ again,I see it on all of the platforms. On LinkedIn for example its means posting about things that are not relevant to your area of expertise and how you're trying to position yourself. So for example, posting about a celebrity that's in the news at the moment, a topical subject, a movie, a TV series and asking people for an opinion on it.

Fourthly there is, being fooled by ‘vanity metrics, as they're called. So being carried away with the numbers that you see, on your posts on Facebook, on Twitter, on LinkedIn, and being excited. Just because you've got thousands of views or thousands of reach and likes these are not necessarily measures of success. They are important, but what's more relevant is your target audience and that are they engaging with your content. And finally, fifthly and this is a big issue for the ‘algorithms’ Its ‘over tagging’ -tagging other people into posts, on Linkedin for example, but also maybe adding too many hashtags on certain platforms as well. This can look a bit spammy, I think. There you go. There's, there are the five signs! If you want to grow your business and you don't want to look desperate.
