Like most people I have watched with fascination as ChatGPT has swept the globe. I have had several attempts at writing an article on it. But I've let things settle and watched the hype die down until committing some firm thoughts on what it means to the keyboard and screen.

👉Microsoft’s $10 billion investment in OpenAI, the parent company of Chat GPT, late last year put other major tech players—Amazon and Google chief among them—on notice. Google has already launched Bard its rival. Now Microsoft is relaunching BING ( its search rival to Google ) powered by AI. The pace of change is rapid.

👉 Chat GPT took a week to reach 1 million users, a record - Facebook took 10 months and Netflix 40 months !!

👉 Chat GPT writes blogs, articles and answers to any question. Note it doesn't always get the answer right though!!

👉The last big innovation before ChatGPT was voice search via tools like Alexa, and Google Assistant. The way they work is you ask them a question, and they give you an answer based on their database.

However, if you ask any of these voice assistants to write you a song or type up a blog post, they can’t do that.

👉 So the big difference with ChatGPT is it not only gathers data from crawling the internet, but it is able to dissect the data and give you an answer or solution to more complicated questions.

✅ It's really a logical evolution of Alexa or even Google Assistant. The data sources are mostly the same, but the big difference is how the data is processed and comprehended so that you can get better-quality answers.

👉 I'd expect voice assistants like Alexa, and Google Assistant to evolve and add tools like ChatGPT so they can give you smarter more complex answers.

👉 So will tools like Chat GPT kill traditional search and crush Google?

✅ No I can remember when voice assistant/search tools like Alexa came out, people were worried that it would massively impact SEO and search as you could get answers to your questions without even clicking on a website.

✅ None of these technologies has changed the fundamentals of search but they do change the way we search. You still need the services of a good SEO expert if search is a core part of your digital marketing.

✅ So embrace ChatGPT and the many rivals that will emerge it's a great tool and can help you with your content creation though nothing replaces human and authentic input.
